It is our pleasure to help you begin the joy of the holiday season. Picture yourself the week after Thanksgiving, the Friday Night before the 1st Saturday of December – there’s a chill in the air and a warmth in your heart because you’ve come to visit downtown Ionia for our annual Hometown Holiday. We begin with the ceremonial lighting of the giant Main St. Christmas tree – a tradition revived in 2010 after being absent for over thirty years. Sing Christmas Carols with the community around the tree while waiting for the Electric Light Christmas Parade to begin. Marching down Main Street all decked out in lights and holiday gear are nearly fifty parade entries from floats to bands – rounding off with the Grand Marshalls, Santa & Mrs. Claus who after the parade stop by the Armory Community Center for visits with children and the young at heart. Register to be in the parade. The Mrs. Claus Bazaar (Register with Commission on Aging -fundraiser- 616-527-5365) opens the morning after on the 1st Saturday of December with nearly 100 gifts and craft booths at the Ionia Middle School – truly one of Mid Michigan's largest holiday craft shows. Also this morning, enjoy Breakfast with Santa at the Armory Community Center. Don’t forget to look for your unique gifts at area local merchants – they have been working on great ideas with special pricing for everyone on your list! Please check our online community calendar for up to date events in every season!
